Waruna commenced its journey as a maritime enterprise, rooted firmly in ship repair services. In these foundational years, the company established its reputation locally by delivering meticulous and reliable repair work

In 1995, the company strategically acquired Harbour tug operations, marking its entry into tug services and enhancing its support capabilities. Building on this foundation, Waruna expanded into the tanker sector, culminating in the launching of its small tanker in 1996, diversifying its service portfolio

In 1997: Construction was commenced on Waruna’s first dry dock with capacity of up to 7000 DWT, marking a significant operational upgrade. In 1998: officially launch of Dry Dock 1, swiftly followed by the development of Dock 2 and Dock 3, reinforcing the shipyard’s repair and construction infrastructure

In 2002:  A large dry dock was introduced, further scaling Waruna’s capacity to accommodate bigger vessels and more complex projects. In 2008: The shipyard reached a pivotal milestone by completing its fifth and sixth dry docks, significantly expanding its capabilities and production scale.

Waruna initiated operations of its first large tanker, setting the stage for tanker services to become a central focus of the Waruna Group’s business strategy.

The company expanded into Tug & Barge services, diversifying beyond tanker operations. After 2010, the shipping business penetrated Tug & Barge services, as well as Bulk Carries in 2015

2015: Growth continued in Shipping by the entering the bulk carrier segment. That same year, Waruna Shipyard ramped up its standard by attaining ISO 9001:2008 certification, demonstrating commitment to quality and process.

2016: Buoyed by deepening expertise, Waruna broadened its scope to include shipbuilding services, gradually serving clients across the nation, including Pelindo & Pertamina Trans Kontinental.

In 2019, Waruna broadened its fleet by commissioning its first LPG tanker, reflecting strategic entry into gas transport. From Shipyard side, the launch of new dry dock was capable of accommodating up to 120.000 DWT vessels, representing landmark achievements in capacity and infrastructure

Amid global challenges, 2020 was defined by transformation and resilience. Waruna adopted new business models, strengthened its corporate governance, enhanced crew capabilities, and optimized vessel maintenance and internal processes to remain competitive and compliant in the evolving maritime.

In 2021, Waruna prioritized digital transformation and environmental stewardship. The company invested in digital monitoring system to improve operational efficiency and vessel performance. Simultaneously, it has also implemented enhanced environmental measures, including emission reduction protocols and waste management improvement to align with emerging international maritime sustainability standards. In the same years, our shipyard reached another milestone with the successful delivery of two of our own-built Harbour Tugs, which are operated by our shipping company.

Waruna furthered its operational excellence through the adoption of an Integrated Safety Management System, reinforcing its safety first culture across all divisions. The company also expanded its regional footprint by establishing strategic partnership in Southeast Asia, enhancing its capacity for regional shipping services and fostering broader industry collaboration.

Continuing its forward momentum, 2024 was dedicated for safety excellence. Waruna conducted and extensive self-assessment of its safety management systems, reaffirming its commitment to highest standards of team safety, operational integrity, and regulatory adherence.
